Barking Dog Leads To Body Found Under Tarp Near Street

CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. (CBS4) - Police have remained cautious after a woman walking her dog in Cherry Hills Village discovered the body of a dead man on Tuesday.

The unidentified man was found in a construction tarp used for discarding trash on the front yard of a home around 11:30 a.m. Police say there were no signs of a struggle and while the investigation is not being called a homicide, it is being considered "very suspicious."

Police say the woman was walking her dog when she saw a tarp near the intersection of East Layton Avenue and South Clarkson Street near the Cherry Hill Village and Englewood border. She thought it looked suspicious and her dog began barking at the tarp, so she called police. When officers arrived they found the body under the tarp.

"It's certainly suspicious that a body ends up in our city in a bag, so we want to make sure we look at every aspect and we don't overlook anything and see where our investigation leads us to," said Cmdr. Pat Weathers with the Cherry Hills Village Police Department.

Investigators marked at least 50 pieces of potential evidence over a sprawling four-block scene and used a bloodhound to help in the search. It is unclear to detectives if the body died on the location or if it was dragged there.

An autopsy is expected to be completed on the body Wednesday morning.
