Body Found On McClure Pass Identified As Man From Longmont

PITKIN COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The identity of a man found dead near the top of McClure Pass has been released. Authorities confirm that the body is that of Matthew Barz of Longmont.

About 7 a.m. Monday, a person driving on a rural road at the top of McClure Pass on Highway 33, saw someone who appeared to be injured and called for help.

When the Pitkin County Sheriff's deputy and an ambulance arrived, they found the man, Barz, 49, deceased. He appeared to be using the area as a short-term campsite near the highway.

Gunnison and Pitkin County Sheriff's Offices are working cooperatively on the investigation since the location was near the border of the two counties. How Barz died is being investigated.
