Blue Tongue Virus Connected To Deer Deaths In Alamosa

ALAMOSA, Colo. (CBS4)- The blue tongue virus is connected to some deer deaths in Alamosa. Colorado Parks and Wildlife said the disease was discovered in at least two dead mule deer.

The disease is transmitted by biting flies or other insects. The virus can also be found in white-tailed deer, elk, bighorn sheep, pronghorn and bison.

CPW recommends that hunters avoid shooting and consuming sick animals. Also, don't handle the deer if found dead. Instead, call CPW.
