Blown Tire Triggered I-25 Crash That Injured 5

DENVER (CBS4) - Investigators in Denver say a blown tire led to a car crash on Interstate 25 that closed the northbound lanes for three hours Friday morning.

A passenger in the SUV whose tire blew out has critical injuries. Three children and the driver of the SUV were also injured but are expected to survive.

Authorities say the SUV lost control at 6:30 a.m. on the highway near Steele Street and swerved in front of a truck.

A Denver woman who lives a block and a half from where it happened heard the crash when she was in bed and immediately knew something horrible had happened.

"It was a terrible sound," Susan Westhof said. "I knew it was some kind of collision."

"It sounded as though something ran into a brick wall. And I literally lay there and thought 'That sounded like a terrible accident and I'm going to know in a few seconds.' And, literally, within seconds it was just sirens and sirens and sirens."
