Big Demand For Retail Pot Sales In Fort Collins
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4)- It turns out there is a big demand for retail pot in Northern Colorado after the Fort Collins City Council voted earlier this week to allow recreational marijuana sales.
"Thank God for Fort Collins' openmindedness," said A Kind Place owner Don Cruickshank.
The decision bucks the trend in that part of the state to ban retail pot sales after Colorado voters passed Amendment 64 which legalized recreational sales of marijuana.
In Fort Collins, A Kind Place is one of 11 licensed medical marijuana dispensaries.
Cruickshank said it will be months before he has paperwork in place to sell recreational products but prospective customers are anxious, "My phone has rang about every 10 minutes of everyday and I've had a multitude of people coming in constantly asking, 'Is it retail? Is it retail? Can we buy? Can we buy?'"
The city estimates pot sales tax revenue could bring up to $900,000 each year.
