Bicyclist Falls More Than 200 Feet Down Steep Embankment In Jefferson County
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Rescuers were called in to reach a bicyclist who ended up more than 200 feet down a steep embankment off of High Grade Road in Jefferson County Saturday morning.
The cyclist crashed into a guard rail and flipped over the barrier with his bike. He landed in a pile of scrub oak which rescuers had to cut away from him.
It took nearly an hour to get the man to safety.
"We have tons and tons and tons of bicyclist enthusiasts, motorcycle enthusiasts; this road has many curves. They like the curves, they like the steepness of it, but unfortunately they need to slow down and watch their speed. Some of these curves are sharper than they appear and they have a hard time maintaining through the curve in many, many cases," Bill Lucatuorto with Intercanyon Fire Rescue said.
The cyclist broke his femur but is expected to recover.
