Bees Swarm Canon City Neighborhood After Tree-Trimmers Cut Into Hive

CANON CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - Three tree-trimmers accidentally cut through the hive of a hundred thousand angry bees on Wednesday, causing them to swarm a Canon City neighborhood.

Each of the workers was stung up to 20 times and crews had to shut down the street, warning neighbors to stay inside.

The men are OK and the bees have been relocated to private property.

"It's scary once you cut into that. We knew there were a few honey bees up in there but we had no idea that there were a couple thousand up there," said Jason Sharp, a tree-trimmer from Front Range Arborists

"Definitely one of those moments you'll never forget," he said.

No one was stung during the relocation on Thursday. Beekeepers think the hive had been in that tree for around five years.
