Beekeeper Removes Thousands Of Bees, Hive From Church Attic

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- A huge bee hive with tens of thousands of bees and several gallons of honey was removed from the attic of a church in Boulder on Friday.

Tens of thousands of bees settled into their new home on Friday evening after beekeeper Gregg McMahan spent most of the day removing the huge hive and the bees from the attic of the Pine Street Church in Boulder.

McMahan estimates as many as 80,000 bees lived there. The hive collected gallons of honey and could have been in the attic for decades.

"Once we got down to starting to cut the comb out that's where it really got tough because it was just a big, giant, mangled mess and there was just no easy way to cut off little pieces and bring it out nicely. It was pretty tough," said McMahan.

The hive has been relocated four miles away where a beekeeper will join it with another hive.
