Beauprez Rounds Out GOP Governor Primary

DENVER (AP) - Former U.S. Rep. Bob Beauprez has been certified to Republican primary ballots for governor.

The certification Wednesday of Beauprez's petitions to make ballots settles the Republican field at four. Beauprez will compete against Secretary of State Scott Gessler, former state Sen. Mike Kopp and former U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo in a June 24 primary.

The winner of the Republican nomination will challenge Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper, who is seeking a second term.

Colorado has no election runoffs, so the top vote-getter in the primaries becomes the party nominee.

Beauprez served two terms in Congress from Denver's western suburbs. He unsuccessfully ran against former Democratic Gov. Bill Ritter in 2006.
