BB Gun Vandals Target Neighborhood, Leave Shattered Windows

By Suzanne McCarroll

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Residents in the area of Holly and Yale in Arapahoe County woke up to shattered car windows on Thursday in what was a string of seemingly senseless crimes.

Remmy Moten had his entire back window blown out from what he says looks like a pellet from a BB gun.

"Kids go around destroying people's property, if you want to shoot some stuff out why don't you shoot your parents' windows out instead of making everybody else have to pay for this?" said Moten.

Across the street, a big white van has a huge hole in the driver's window and there is glass scattered across the asphalt below.

CBS4's Suzanne McCarroll asks van owner James Riley if this is his work van. He says he's a plumber who stores all his tools inside the van.

When asked, "Did they steal anything?" Riley replied, "No, no… I don't think they were trying to steal anything; I think they were just going for a little vandalism."

Another car had expensive speakers inside but the vandals apparently weren't interested in music or pilfering belongings.

The houses on the street are nicely maintained but residents say this area has been fraught with problems in recent years.

Riley cites just a few, "We've had since I've lived here, probably nine parked cars hit and more houses broken into."

Moten is a big guy with very little patience for this sort of senseless damage. He suggests the prowlers take their pitiful pranks elsewhere.
