Bank Robbery Suspect Who Fled On Light Rail Is Charged

DENVER (CBS4) - A man accused of robbing a bank on the 16th Street Mall and making a getaway aboard light rail was charged Friday.

The DA's office said Michael Whitington, 45, robbed a TCF Bank on the 16th Street Mall between Welton and California streets on Tuesday. He is charged with one felony count of robbery.

Police stopped the train a few blocks away and took Whitington into custody without incident.

Whitington's bond is set at $5,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. for an advisement hearing.
