Bank Customers Robbed While Being Stuck In Traffic, 2 Suspects On The Run

EDGEWATER, Colo. (CBS4) - Authorities are continuing to search for two armed robbery suspects who targeted motorists who were trapped in traffic.

The robbery happened just outside a bank in Edgewater on Friday at approximately 5:45 p.m. According to police, two men went to the Chase bank to cash some checks, but minutes later the money would be taken from them at gunpoint.

Police say as the victims drove out of the bank parking lot a white Ford Escape pulled in front of them at a red light. Two suspects armed with handguns then got out and robbed the men trapped in traffic before fleeing in the stolen SUV.

Nobody was injured but a multi city-wide search for the suspects occurred. A little more than five hours later Denver police spotted the white SUV near 38th Avenue and Lipan Street and a high-speed chase ensued.

Aurora police got involved in the chase and dropped stop sticks near Parker Road and Hawaii Drive. With the SUV stopped four suspects got out and ran but K9 units helped track down 15- and 16-year-old boys who are now being held at the Jefferson County Juvenille Assessment Center. Two more suspects are still on the run.

Charges have not yet been filed against the two teens as it's still unclear their involvement in the armed robbery.

Police do not have descriptions of the other suspects and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
