Balloon Release Honors 3 Children Killed In Small Plane Crash

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4)- Friends and family gathered at Broomfield High School to remember three children killed in a small plane crash in Erie.

The community gathered for a balloon release to remember the lives of Mason Wedan who died in the plane crash. He was a sophomore at the school and a member of the soccer team.

Mason's twin 11-year-old brothers, Austin Wedan, and Hunter Wedan, their mother, Tori Rains-Wedan, and the pilot, Oliver Frascona, also died in Sunday's crash.

They were killed when their Piper PA-46 crash near the runway at the Erie Municipal Airport, north of Denver. Witnesses said the plane appeared to try to land when it hit the ground.

The NTSB is investigating the crash and a preliminary report on what happened is expected in the coming days.
