Backyards Slip Away In Landslide Behind Homes

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- Recent heavy rains are being blamed for a landslide in a Colorado Springs subdivision.

One woman's deck and balcony had to be sawed off after the landslide left them dangling. Several other backyards just slipped away.

People living in those homes are concerned they may have to evacuate.

"The problem was that it fell away down there and then it was like a domino effect, nothing to hold it anymore," said homeowner Monika Buckley.

Buckley said the City of Colorado Springs knew it was a problem area but never took care of the embankment. The public works director for the city said they are not liable for the private land along the channel.
