Baby's Gender Revealed To Mother, Grandmother Days Before Death

By Andrea Flores

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4)- While there are certain milestones some daughters never want their moms to miss, one Westminster woman says learning the gender of her unborn baby just days before her mother's death was at the top.

First-time mom Taylor Masilotti said learning she was having a baby girl in the same hospital bed as her terminally ill mother is something she'll never forget.

"I just looked at her and everything kind of flashed," said Masilotti. "It hit me more that she wouldn't be there."

Battling Stage 4 brain and lung cancer, doctors at Longmont United Hospital knew Masilotti's mom's time was coming to an end.

"I kind of thought, 'How am I going to do this?'" Masilotti said. "I couldn't picture myself going through this without her."

Longmont United Hospital arranged for Taylor to have an ultrasound lying next to her mom before it was too late.

"She reached over and she patted my cheek, which is something that she has always done," Masilotti said. "At that moment is when I kind of knew she was still fighting, but ready to go as well."

Masilotti's mom passed away just three days later.

While the moment will always be bittersweet, Taylor said she's happy knowing her mother met her baby before she was even born.

"She will know that the love that my mom had for her, because even without seeing her, my mom loved her a lot already," Masilotti said.

Masilotti said her mom and daughter will share the same middle name, and hopes the small tribute will help her mom's legacy live on forever.
