Baby Born On I-25 Couldn't Wait To Come Into The World

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. (CBS4)- Newborn Elan rested peacefully in her mother's arms on Friday evening but just a few hours before the scene on Interstate 25 was a little more chaotic.

Elan decided she couldn't wait until her parents, Zachary and Jenn Backes got to the hospital to make her appearance.

Jenn said contractions came on quickly and she and Zachary got into the car to drive to the hospital. But it wasn't fast enough.

"And I'm honking at people to tell them to get out of the way so that I can get over," said Zachary.

It was rush hour on I-25 on Friday afternoon and Elan wasn't waiting.

"Oh, I was trying to fight it a little bit," laughed Jenn, "I didn't want to have a baby in the car. But you can only fight it so much and when they're ready they're ready and you kind of have to be, too."

"She's yelling at me, 'Baby's coming!' and so I got over from the left lane to the shoulder in about 10 seconds and within that span of time the baby's head was out and the baby was born on the side of the road," said Zachary.

"He was a little blue when he first came out and it took him just a second... that one second of not crying was the longest second ever," said Jenn.

Paramedics got mom and baby to the hospital and they're all doing fine at home.
