WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4)- The new B Line from Union Station to Westminster is on track to open on July 25, but final tests need a green light before passengers can get on board.

"We're really focusing on the final construction at the station to make sure that it's transit-ready for our passengers, but we're also testing our train system so we make sure we're running on that 11-minute travel time," said Regional Transportation Didstrict Spokesperson Tara Bettale.

RTD says the commuter rail has a few more stops until it's ready for service.

"All the communication elements, the signage, the lights, and even the security cameras are all being tested in this final stage," Bettale said.

Chelsea Dunn lives in the Goat Hill neighborhood, less than 500 feet from the new line, and can't wait for the rail to be up and running.

"Moved in about six months ago and thought that it was just a park or a new area for community members to utilize, finding out that it's a commuter rail kind of made the neighborhood attraction even better," Dunn said.

With a 350-space parking garage, bike lockers, and bus connections to the station, Dunn hopes nearby residents will take advantage of its easy-access.

"It's exciting because then we don't have to use our mileage, our vehicles, and our gas," said Dunn.

Service on the B Line will run every 30 minutes during peak times and hourly all other times.

"If you wait for a bus, you're going to wait for the commuter rail," Dunn said.

A one-way ticket for the B Line will cost $2.60.
