Avs Settle On Backup Goalie

DENVER (CBS) - The Colorado Avalanche have settled on a backup goalie, and it's not Calvin Pickard.

Pickard gave up a pair of goals to Calgary on Tuesday night and the Avs shipped him back to the minors.

Reto Berra will back up Semyon Varlamov. Berra had a strong preseason, and cutting him would have cost them some money.

"I think overall I was just more focused," Berra said. "I was probably mentally better prepared for camp this year than the last year, so it worked out well."
