Avs Hold Burgundy & White Battle At DU

DENVER (CBS4) - The annual Burgundy and White battle was played at the University of Denver for the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday.

It's was a chance for fans to check out top draft pick Mikko Rantanen, but first an old reliable showed the kids how it's done.. Alex Tanguay got the first goal for the white team off a feed from Nathan MacKinnon.

Rantanen also scored for the white team.

Dennis Everberg had an assist on Joey Hishon's goal for the burgundy team, but it was too little too late. The white team won 3-1.

The preseason games start Tuesday. Head coach Patrick Roy isn't very concerned with the outcome of meaningless games.

"We're here to evaluate players and we like our depth and we're very happy (with the) intensity out there and we're … anxious to see on Tuesday night against the Ducks," Roy said.

The first game of the regular season is Oct. 8. at home against the Minnesota Wild.
