Avon Couple Acknowledge Causing Infant Daughter's Death

EAGLE, Colo. (AP) — An Avon couple charged in the death of their infant daughter have pleaded guilty to child abuse causing death.

Prosecutors say 25-year-old Lossie Thomas entered her plea Thursday and was sentenced to seven years in prison. Her fiance, 32-year-old Patrick Williams, pleaded guilty June 9 and is scheduled to be sentenced in August.

The couple were charged in the June 2015 death of 6-month-old Paris Belle Williams.

Dr. Robert A. Kurtzman says the baby died from pneumonia and was underweight, dehydrated, suffered from staph and E. coli infections and had sores on her body.

Williams and Thomas have three other children who are currently with child protective services. The youngest was born while Thomas was incarcerated, pending resolution of her case.
