Avalanche Victim Remembered By Church

DENVER (CBS4) - A man killed in an avalanche on New Year's Eve was remembered by his church on Friday night.

Christopher Thomas, 39, died while snowshoeing in Clear Creek County.

He and fellow climbers were on their way to Grays and Torrey's peaks when the avalanche was triggered.

On Friday, Thomas was remembered as a great friend who loved nature.

"Christopher was absolutely amazing human being. He was bold and confident, and at the same time, a gentle human being. He had a courage and a deep connection to the divine and to nature," Joy Burton of Living Earth Church in Denver said.

Thomas was a soldier for 18 years and served four combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
