Driver Cited After Striking Passenger, Cars At DIA
DENVER (CBS4) - A 75-year-old driver was cited twice for allegedly striking a passenger and causing a chain reaction at Denver International Airport Monday morning near the west terminal entrance.
Edna Jones has been cited twice with careless driving resulting in bodily injury.
Investigators said Jones was driving a large SUV when she struck a man who was unloading luggage from the trunk of a car parked in the west passenger drop-off area. He was dragged about 30-40 feet and suffered serious injuries to his legs.
They say she pressed on the gas pedal instead of her brakes.
"Accelerated towards him, took him, knocked his car which hit another car," said Denver Police Department spokeswoman Christine Downs.
Another person was struck but suffered minor injuries and went on to make his flight.
"Part of the investigation is what happened and why the driver of the large SUV accelerated at that point," said Downs.
Police said if the condition of the man who was seriously injured gets worse, Jones could be facing more severe charges.
