Authorities Release ID Of Man Shot By Clear Creek County Deputy

DENVER (CBS4) – Authorities have released the identity of a man shot by a deputy along Interstate 70 last Friday.

A Clear Creek sheriff's deputy shot Cody William Cox, 36, near the Empire exit. Investigators say Cox led deputies on a chase in heavy ski traffic.

Cox, from Nederland, is in critical condition at a Denver hospital.

"A man driving a silver Toyota truck with a camper westbound on I-70 did not respond immediately to attempts by deputies to pull him over in connection with a possible DUI," police said in a statement. "The Toyota was reportedly all over the road, and at one point the man gave deputies a 'peace sign.' "

Authorities said Cox began rear-ending a car in front of him.

The county shut down the westbound lanes of I-70 for more than five hours.
