Authorities Investigating Apartment Fire In Denver

DENVER (CBS4) – Arson investigators were called to an apartment fire in Denver Saturday morning.

The fire broke out around 9:45 a.m. at the Valley Park Apartments on Wolff Street north of 6th Avenue.

Seven trucks with 28 firefighters contained the blaze to one unit.

The apartment manager said that investigators are interviewing a teenager who may have intentionally started the fire.

He was in the apartment with his sister when the fire started.

"The arson investigator will talk to them and get their account of what transpired," said Assistant Denver Fire Department Chief Todd Hamilton

A neighbor tried to keep the flames from spreading.

"I think they went through five dry chemical extinguishers that were here on the premises," said Hamilton.

The man who tried to put out the fire on his own was treated on scene.

Two other people were taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation.
