Authorities Demonstrate The Dangers Of Fireworks

DENVER (CBS4) - The Fourth of July and fireworks go hand in hand, but the safest way to enjoy the holiday is by leaving the light shows to the professionals. That's the message from Denver police, firefighters and paramedics.

Standing next to a display of illegal fireworks, they reminded residents that fireworks are illegal and dangerous.

"Whether it's the smallest sparkler to larger fireworks, any firework can cause injuries," a paramedic said. "Every year we see people injured mostly with extremity injuries and facial injuries needlessly."

In Denver, breaking the law can cost $1,000 and up to a year in jail.
