Aurora Woman Convicted In Mother's 2013 Shooting Death

GEORGETOWN, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado jury has convicted a 30-year-old Aurora woman of killing her mother on Thanksgiving Day 2013.

Jurors in Clear Creek County on Tuesday found Traci Ann Cunningham guilty of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and stealing a firearm. She faces a mandatory punishment of life in prison when she is sentenced Wednesday.

Prosecutors say she drove her mother, Penelope Sue Cunningham, nearly 150 miles from Aurora to the town of Gypsum, where she shot her several times and left her body on a dirt road.

Traci Cunningham was initially tried in Eagle County but there was a mistrial after a jury could not be seated because of publicity surrounding the case. The trial was then moved to Clear Creek County.
