Aurora Theater Shooter James Holmes Moved To New Prison

DENVER (AP) - Officials say Aurora theater shooter James Holmes has been moved to a prison that specializes in treating mentally ill inmates but that the transfer isn't directly related to his mental health.

Corrections department spokeswoman Adrienne Jacobson said Monday that Holmes was moved to the San Carlos Correctional Facility in Pueblo, near the state mental hospital. She described Holmes' transfer as routine and said offenders are often moved to different prisons.

Until now, Holmes had his own cell at the Colorado State Penitentiary and had contact with just seven other prisoners when he was allowed out of his cell. Jacobson says he'll now have contact with more inmates and likely spend more time out of his cell.

Holmes killed 12 people and injured 70 others at a movie premiere in 2012.
