Aurora Police Shoot Homicide Suspect During Standoff At Motel
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) -- Aurora police shot a fugitive wanted for homicide during a standoff at a motel on Tuesday night.
The man, who was considered armed and dangerous, was staying at the Wolf's Motor Inn at 15691 East Colfax Avenue, near Chambers. Police contacted him at 7:15 p.m. but he refused to leave the room. Negotiators tried for several hours to get him to surrender. Just after 10 p.m., an officer heard a gunshot inside the room and the SWAT team forced their way in.
"While officers were outside and talking with this guy, they hear shots fired from inside the motel room. This kind of amped-up their response and made them force entry. After they forced entry, additional shots were fired and the suspect was struck. After the suspect was struck he was taken to the hospital. He has serious injuries but non-life-threatening at this time," said Aurora Police Agent Matthew Longshore.
The suspect's name has not been released. He remained in the hospital on Wednesday.
A woman was inside the motel room with the suspect. She was not injured during the altercation.
Two SWAT Officers who entered the room also received minor injuries but were not shot.
