Shelter in place lifted after arrest of barricaded suspect in Aurora

Police in Aurora temporarily asked residents in the area near a barricaded suspect to shelter in place Sunday night.

Officers served a warrant in the 17600 block of East Mansfield Avenue around 7:20 p.m. for a suspect they say is a wanted fugitive. However, officials say the suspect barricaded themselves inside the residence.

Negotiators and a SWAT Team were also called to the scene, and authorities asked residents near the area to shelter in place while they worked to reach a peaceful resolution.

The suspect was taken into custody around 8 p.m., but the shelter-in-place order remained in effect while officers swept the residence. It was lifted around 8:13 p.m.

The Aurora Police Department said officers will remain in the area for several more hours as they investigate the scene.
