Aurora Police Arrest 2 Suspects In Spice Investigation

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Aurora have arrested two people suspected of distributing large quantities of spice. Investigators also seized an estimated 12,000 packets of the drug.

The Aurora Police Narcotics Sections began the investigation on Wednesday where they observed a man and woman meet and engage in a suspected drug transaction.

The woman, Seble Gebreegziadhair, was arrested for her role in the drug transaction. When she was arrested officers recovered several hundred packets of suspected spice.

Shortly after Gebreegziadhair was arrested officers arrested the man observed in the drug transaction, Dowinder Boparai.

Investigators searched storage facilities that were associated with the two suspects. During the searches officers found and seized the remaining packets of suspected spice.

Spice is a synthetic cannabinoid designed to mimic the effects of marijuana., It's a psychoactive designer drug derived from natural herbs and sparyed with synthetic chemicals. It can be up to 800 times stronger than marijuana.

Spice is an extremely dangerous drug and an overdose with the drug is the official cause of at least one death, a 15-year-old male in Aurora last summer.

Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates offered this statement after the arrests. "We need to educate young people who use this stuff that it can kill. I am thankful that our officers got so large an amount of spice off the streets and that we are holding these dealers accountable."

Boparai, 54, and Gebreegziadhair, 28, both of Aurora are facing several drug-related charges and were jailed with bonds of $50,000 each.
