Officers rushed to the home near Mexico and South Kenton Street just after 2 a.m. When they arrived, they were told there was a man inside with a gun. They heard gunfire and were confronted by an armed man wearing body armor.

The man fired at police and officers fired back. The suspect with the gun was struck.

Officers later found another man inside the home who apparently was injured by gunfire. Both men were taken to the hospital where they died. The deceased have not been identified.

"This could have been a very different situation. This is very dangerous. Tt's unusual to encounter someone with body armor. There are a lot of things we need to still determine to be able to give accurate information," said Aurora Police spokeswoman Crystal McCoy.
