Aurora Man Gets 67 Years In Blowtorch Torture Case
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a Colorado man to 67 years in prison for orchestrating a home invasion robbery in which the victim was tortured with a blowtorch.
Thirty-two-year-old Julio Francisco Vazquez of Aurora was sentenced Thursday in Arapahoe County District Court.
Prosecutors said Vazquez and two other men bound the victim with packaging tape and inflicted second- and third-degree burns all over his body. The three men and a female accomplice stole a leather jacket, cellphone and other items in the June 2011 robbery in Aurora.
The victim was permanently disfigured.
Vazquez had been convicted on multiple counts, including first-degree assault, aggravated robbery and felony menacing.
His three co-defendants pleaded guilty to various charges and received sentences ranging from 10 to 22 years in prison.
