Aurora House Fire Set Intentionally, Investigators Say
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A woman and her dog escaped a house fire early Tuesday morning that investigators believe was set intentionally.
Crews responded to the fire at 20304 E. Vassar Ave. at approximately 3:10 a.m. They withdrew from the interior due to the fire's intensity and concern the house would collapse. After spraying the home's exterior, they put the fire out in 90 minutes.
"Crews did have what we call and emergency withdrawal. There was heavy fire within the structure and it was unsafe for the crews to be operating in the structure so they withdrew from the structure and fought the fire defensively," Capt. Diana Lord with the Aurora Fire Department said. "We fight the fire from the outside."
The woman and firefighters were not injured.
Lord said investigators have determined the fire started in the garage. There's no exact word on damage, but the house is "very well a total loss."
