Aurora Family In Limbo Waiting For Deportation Ruling

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- An Aurora family is in limbo as they wait to learn whether their mother will be allowed to stay in the U.S.

Community members gathered on Thursday to show their support for undocumented immigrant Jeanette Vizguerra. She and her children have been fighting a public battle against deportation for six years.

Her stay of deportation expired on Thursday which leaves the family's future in the hands of immigration officials.

"There's the immigration issues but then there's the personal issues, Jeanette's a mother, she has three kids. They're starting school this week and they're thinking and worrying about every day whether or not they're going to see their mom when they get home from school," said attorney Hans Meyer.

"So we're here to surround her with support, hear a little bit of an update on where things are but mostly to support her and let her know the community is still with her in this fight," said Minister Anne Dunlap with United Church of Christ.

Vizguerra filed her necessary paperwork in July but hasn't heard anything from immigration officials.
