August Snow Spotted On Alpine Web Cams, Denver Breaks Record Low

DENVER (CBS4) - Although this is Colorado, it is still August, and the sight of mountaintop snow surprised people Wednesday morning.

Tuesday night low temperatures broke a record in Denver, falling to 47 degrees. It also happened a night earlier when Monday's low of 47 degrees tied a previous record from 1960.

In the high country, those lows were even cooler, enough for snow to stick to the mountaintops.

Snow was seen on Cameron Pass Wednesday morning from a CDOT camera, and also dusted the top of Rocky Mountain National Park near the Alpine Visitors Center.

The snow melted quickly after the sun rose.

With snow in the high country, it has some wondering when Denver will see its first snow. CBS4 is hosting a contest to guess the date of the first measurable snow in Denver.

You can learn more about entering and get some helpful hints about first snow from Meteorologist Chris Spears here.
