Attorney Sentenced For Faking Kidnapping
BRIGHTON, Colo. (CBS4)- Attorney Becky Keil has been sentenced to two years probation for attempting to influence a public servant and false reporting in a kidnapping hoax.
Keil, 52, was charged in August 2014 for falsely reporting that she had been kidnapped. She was convicted in January of attempting to influence a public servant and false reporting to authorities.
At a sentencing hearing on Thursday, an Adams County judge sentenced Keil to two years probation, 80 hours of community service. He also ordered her to undergo a mental health evaluation.
Keil claimed that she had been kidnapped and locked in the truck of her car in Westminster on March 24, 2014 and again on May 6, 2014.
These events took place while Keil was handling civil matters for the victim family in a high profile Douglas County murder-for-hire case. Chris Wells is serving life in prison in that case for hiring several people to kill his estranged wife, Amara Wells, and his brother-in-law Bob Rafferty.
Keil indicated that Wells was behind her kidnapping.
Police found inconsistencies in her story and she was charged Aug. 8, 2014. Keil's license to practice law has been suspended.
