Man With Knife, Gun Surrenders To Arvada Police At Headquarters

ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Arvada surrounded their own headquarters on Friday after a man walked into the lobby with a knife and a gun. The man finally surrendered more than three hours later.

Police urged residents to avoid the area surrounding the police headquarters at 8101 Ralston Road while the man kept police outside their own lobby.

Police said the man came into the headquarters at 6:18 with a knife and a gun. One woman inside was able to escape before the barricade situation began. She was not hurt.

The man started making suicidal threats and that's when police evacuated the building. The lobby is small, only about eight by 10 feet. Officers then surrounded the building.

Police used a "flash bang" device to get the suspect to come outside. That didn't work so a negotiator tried to get the man to come out peacefully.

The man surrendered to officers at 9:40 p.m. Friday. He was unharmed.
