Faith Leaders Want To Update Archaic Language In Colorado Constitution

DENVER (CBS4) - On Monday at the Colorado state Capitol a resolution was introduced to change some archaic language in the state constitution.

Currently, Article II, Section 26 states, "There shall never be in this state either slavery or involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime, whereof the party shall have been duly convicted."

The No Slavery, No Exceptions campaign wants to get rid of the "except" provision.

"Particularly from the African-American community, we want to make it crystal clear that we believe that it is overdue for an upgrade in archaic language that currently exists in the Colorado Bill of Rights," Pastor Del Phillips said.

The No Slavery, No Exceptions campaign was formed by leaders of different faiths around the state.
