Animal Sanctuary Rescues Former Circus Lions

KEENESBURG, Colo. (CBS4) - The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg has agreed to take in 30 lions in need of a home.

The animals were rescued from illegal circus acts in Peru and Colombia, and are scheduled to arrive in Colorado the first week of April.

The new cats will bring the number of rescued animals living at the sanctuary to about 400, which includes big cats, bears, and wolves.

Caring for each lion costs about $8,000 a year, and the new rescues will likely need special medical care.
