Amendment T Supporters Rally At State Capitol

DENVER (CBS4)- Supporters of Amendment T rallied at the State Capitol on Tuesday to gain support for the measure which calls for a reference to slavery to be removed from the Colorado Constitution.

The reference is Article 2, Section 26 of the state constitution which states, "There shall never be in this state either slavery or involuntary servitude except as a punishment or crime."

Amendment T would get rid of the exception.

"When we went to a couple of legislators earlier this year, they said, 'That's in the constitution?' And so I think it's something that people have not paid that much attention to. But it is a very hurtful term," said Amendment T supporter Sharon Bridgeforth.

Voters in Colorado will decide on the issue in November.
