Alleged Animal Hoarder Arrested In Weld County
GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - The former daughter-in-law of the late actor Gregory Peck has been charged with animal cruelty in Colorado after previously having large numbers of animals removed from her care in other states.
Kimi Peck, 64, was arrested Monday, three days after she voluntarily surrendered 53 dogs she had been transporting in a trailer in Cheyenne, Wyoming, authorities said. She was allowed to keep four of the animals - the number permitted under city law. She wasn't issued a citation in that case.
However, she was sitting in a Weld County jail in Colorado on Tuesday after authorities said they found one of her dogs running loose and emaciated near her home.
She is charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty and was being held on $3,000 bond.
It was not clear if Peck has a lawyer and the information was not available from court records. No phone number for Peck was listed.
Sheriff's bureau chief Steve Reams said Peck gave a Valencia, California, address, and had residences in several states.
In 2010, Peck was fined $5,000 in Kern County, California, for running a kennel without a permit on land zoned for agriculture. Authorities said she kept more than 170 dogs, mostly Chihuahuas, in a home she rented west of Tehachapi. Later, she allowed county authorities to take control of her animals.
