Air Force May Have Inadvertently Released PFCs Into Drinking Water

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CB4) - Chemicals found in wells near the Peterson Air Force Base may have started from drilling for soil samples.

PFC levels were more than 18 times higher than U.S. Environmental Protection Agency limits were found in water in Security, Widefield, and Fountain.

The Air Force base may have inadvertently released the PFCs when using firefighting foam years ago. The soil samples will be tested.

The Air Force says it is working with the state and county to make sure the drinking water is safe.
