Air Force Hires Chris Gobrecht As Women's Basketball Coach

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) - Chris Gobrecht's next task is turning around the women's basketball team at Air Force.

Athletic director Jim Knowlton announced the hiring of Gobrecht on Tuesday. Gobrecht brings 35 years of Division I head coaching experience to the Academy, including the last decade at Yale.

Gobrecht replaces Andrea Williams, who was 22-128 in five years.

Gobrecht has a 542-473 career record and holds the mark for most wins at Yale and Washington. She started her coaching career at Cal State Fullerton and also coached her alma mater, Southern California, and Florida State. At Washington, her teams went to the NCAA Tournament nine times in 11 seasons.

Knowlton says Gobrecht has "turned around every program she's led and done it the right way. To get someone of her caliber to the Academy makes me very excited about the future of our program."
