Adsit's 10th Surgery Successful, Family Says

DENVER (CBS4) - A 10th surgery for a Denver police officer seriously injured during a student protest went well, his family said.

In a statement released Wednesday, John Adist's family said the injured officer has spoken to them for the first time since the accident. The surgery -- inserting a valve into his tracheotomy -- was successful and "the best Christmas present ever," the family said.

Adsit was hit by a car on Dec. 3 driven by a man who suffered a seizure while driving down Colfax Avenue. Adist was one of four officers struck while monitoring student protesters from East High School. The others suffered minor  injuries.
