Activists, Immigrants In Denver Speak Out For Deportation Relief

DENVER (AP) - Activists, politicians and immigrants in Denver are calling on elected leaders to support President Barack Obama's stalled deportation relief effort.

A news conference in Denver on Tuesday was among several organized nationwide to press elected leaders to support Obama and adopt broader immigration reforms.

Tuesday would have been the start of a program Obama announced in November benefiting immigrants who lack legal status but whose children are Americans. In February, a federal judge in Texas temporarily blocked Obama's action, responding to a suit by 26 states accusing the president of unconstitutional overreach.

Denver housekeeper Yolanda Larios came to the country more than two decades ago from Juarez, Mexico and has three grown children who were born here. At Tuesday's news conference, she called on politicians to help keep families together.
