A Bit Late, But Denver Finally Records First Snow Of The Season

DENVER (CBS4) - It came a little over two weeks behind schedule, but it's finally here.

At 2 a.m. on Thursday, November 5 an inch of snow was measured at Denver's official weather station, making it the first measurable snow of the 2015-2016 season.

The average date of first measurable snowfall in Denver is October 19.

Last year's first measurable snow fell on November 11 and was accompanied by an unusually cold blast of arctic air that sent temperatures well below zero across much of Colorado.

We've seen as much as 6-12 inches of snow in the mountains at some of Colorado's ski resorts, including A-Basin and Crested Butte.

In the Denver area most totals have been around an inch or less, but a few CBS4 Weather Watchers in the foothills northwest of Denver have seen 3-4 inches of snow.
