A 4-Game Winning Streak Is All DU Needs To Repeat As National Champs

DENVER (CBS4) - Nothing else matters now for the Denver Pioneers lacrosse team. If they win four in a row they are national champions again. If they lose they are done.

The NCAA tournament begins this weekend and DU hosts Towson on Sunday.

Getting to the tourney is pretty much a given now for the Pioneers. They have an almost annual spot reserved in championship weekend as well. They lost in their conference tournament this year for the first time in three years, but they've had their eyes on the big prize since Day 1.

"We definitely realize what's at stake here. I feel like from early fall it's been … we're going to win a national championship, trying to repeat," midfielder Trevor Baptiste said. "It's kind of been the moment we've all been waiting for."

"No matter how many years you're around, you watch that selection show, it gets you juiced up, you suddenly realize who you're playing," head coach Bill Tierney said. "I feel like for the guys, it kind of made them feel like, that's in the past. We've responded to the loss to Penn State earlier in the year very well and hopefully we can do that again. What we need is a four-game winning streak."

The Pioneers face off against Towson at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium at 1 p.m.
