80 Schools Denver-Area School Participating In 'PJ Day' To End Homelessness
DENVER (CBS4) - The city and county of Denver and Denver's "Road Home" teamed up with the community to help put homelessness to bed by hosting the ninth annual "PJ Day" on Thursday.
A record-breaking 80 schools from throughout the metro area participate in the fundraiser.
Students made cash or canned food donations and wore pajamas to school.
Mayor Michael Hancock wore his pajamas while visiting University Park Elementary School.
"In our effort to end homelessness we are making progress. Today there are about 5,000 homeless in our community and about 11,000 metro-wide," Hancock said. "As we become more and more regional in mind-set in attacking this issue I think we're going to see even greater results."
Thousands of people in the metro area community need help finding a safe and warm place to sleep at night.
