8-Year-Old Girl Struck, Killed While Riding Bicycle

LONGMONT (CBS4) - An eight-year-old girl was hit and killed while riding her bike with her step-father in Longmont.

At approximately 3:20 p.m. Friday, Longmont Police Department's Deputy Chief Jeff Satur says the girl was struck by a full-sized Ford pickup at 17th Avenue and Alpine Street.

"The bicyclists and her step-father, who was on a separate bike, were westbound on 17th Avenue crossing at Alpine Street," Satur said in a statement. "The truck was making a right turn from northbound Alpine to eastbound 17th Ave," when the accident occurred.

Officers and firefighters attempted CPR before the girl was transported to the hospital, where she passed away.

The intersection was closed for several hours while officers conducted their investigation.

A 20-year-old male was the driver and sole occupant of the truck. He stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. He was released pending further investigation.

The girl's name was not released. Everyone involved was from Longmont.
