Police: 7-Year-Old Boy Shot In Head Likely An Accident
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Aurora say a shooting of a 7-year-old child was likely an accident.
According to Sgt. Chris Amsler, just before 4 p.m. Thursday officers responded to a shooting at a home in the 1000 block of North Vaughn Street, which is northwest of 6th Avenue and Interstate 225.
Amsler said a 7-year-old boy was transported to Children's Hospital with life-threatening injuries after being shot in the head.
The shooting was reported as accidental, but officers are investigating.
Police said the boy doesn't live in the home where the shooting occurred. He apparently went to the home with several other juveniles who were able to somehow get their hands on a gun.
It's not clear if any adults were home when the shooting happened or whether the gun was locked up.
"Our officers arrived on scene, began interviewing people who were involved in this incident. The preliminary information that we have at this time is that the shooting does appear to be accidental," Amsler said. "Everyone who was involved was a juvenile."
A neighbor told CBS4 one of the older juveniles was likely showing off the gun saying his father had a gun inside the home.
Police haven't released the ages of the others inside the home or how many there were.
